Kit McDermed, our Public Affairs rep in Ione, did her usual good job and submitted a story to the Ledger Dispatch about Bishop David Jenkins being called to be the new bishop in Ione, replacing Darwin Lyman who was called to the stake presidency.
She was totally shocked when she got the paper and saw that her picture of the bishopric not only made the front page, it WAS the front page. They also placed the picture on an inside page where the story was located.
Adelle Barrette likes to recall a training session she once went to in the Bay Area where she was told never to turn in a story to the newspaper on new bishops because the papers just weren't interested. That same weekend she had placed a story about three bishops in Lodi who were called at about the same time, with pictures and interviews that covered two thirds of a large page. It just proves that big city public affairs and small town public affairs can be two different things.
