"Serving Our Communities" will be the theme of our second annual state-wide Mormon Helping Hands day scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2011.
The state committee identified some of the things we learned from last year's event:
1. The yellow vests were very important in identifying the MHH brand, and making us identifiable.
2. Full time missionaries helping brought the spirit and investigators.
3. Projects need visibility: be done in daytime and in areas where members can be seen by other community members.
4. Most participants were members. This year try to focus on including other groups such as service clubs, businesses and churches.
5. Need more media coverage. Most success comes when we put together a packet, write the article and include pictures.
6. Use New Media (or Social Media i.e. Facebook, Twitter, blogs, YouTube) to publicize and report the event. Involve Young Adults because they are enthusiastic and use this media already to contact, socialize, and spread information.
7. Priesthood leaders should lead out in the church and in the community. They should encourage members to put forth their best efforts, and invite non-members to participate as well.
8. Priesthood leaders should develop relationships between themselves and community opinion leaders. MHH is a fabulous forum for establishing these relationships. We should begin to develop these relationships NOW, not wait until the first of the year.
Below are two posters that the state committee has developed for our use.
