It seems we're being hit from all directions. In our last PA meeting we discussed the necessity to be prepared in case the newspaper asked us any questions about the California Supreme Court hearing arguments about Prop. 8. Did they call us about this? No, but we were caught off guard yesterday when they called and asked us our beliefs regarding stem cell research, in response to President Obama lifting the Bush ban on stem cell research. Thank heavens for the "newsroom" on lds.org that helps us out on such things, and we were able to get a quote for Pres. Cook to give the newspaper, after first checking with Bishop Shields (who is our unofficial documentary resource) and Lisa West of Sacramento Public Affairs. (See Pres. Cook's comment in the news article below.)
Now there is another issue arising that the Church has had to make a statement about. Apparently the producers of the HBO cable series "Big Love" are airing a program next Sunday, March 15, which they purport to be a depiction of LDS temple ceremonies. I'm hoping we won't get asked any questions about this, as the Church wants to keep it low key. However, they have prepared a lengthy statement for us just in case.
Both of these statements are in the Newsroom at lds.org if anyone wants to learn more about these two issues. Another excellent article on the subject can be found
here.
